Description:
Zagreb is the capital of Croatia and is a popular tourist destination, both for tourists in transit but also in its own right. The city is just over 900 years old and is rich in cultural and historical monuments. It has travel routes to all of Europe and beyond as well as with the rest of Croatia.
Zagreb has many shops & boutiques and a huge number of restaurants. A huge number of activities are on offer including swimming, ice skating, horse riding, basketball, football, tennis, volleyball, handball and hockey. Skiing is available at Sljeme which has four ski-runs, three ski lifts and a chairlift.
A number of picturesque villages are located nearby including the villages of: Sestine, Gracani & Remete.
To Visit: Zagrebs many museums including the Archaeological Museum, the Croatian Museum of Natural Sciences, the Technical Museum, Croatian Historical Museum, the Museum of the city of Zagreb, the Museum of Arts and Crafts, the Ethnographic Museum, the Croatian School Museum, the Croatian Hunting Museum, the Croatian Sports Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Mimara Museum and more. For nature lovers visit the Medvednica Mountain (highest peak Sljeme 1,033) offering superb views of Zagreb.In a Zagreb county Samobor and Zaprešić are two smaller towns recommended to visit.
Events: The biannual World Festival of Animated Films (2008), the Music Biennial (2009), the international festival of avant garde music (biannual next one 2009), the Festival of the Zagreb Philharmonic and the famous flowers exhibition Floraart (end of May or beginning of June), the week of the Contemporary Dance, international festival of contemporary theatre (June), Zagrebfest (oldest Croatian pop music festival and the Zagreb Histrionic Summer.
