Zaton (the word "zaton" actually means a bay or a cove, well protected from winds coming from the open sea) is a small village located on the coast of the eponymous bay, 8 km away from Dubrovnik. It is divided into 2 parts - Veliki Zaton (big bay) and Mali Zaton (small bay). Zaton bay has four main settlements: Zaton Veliki, Zaton Mali, Stikovica and Vrbica. The Renaissance summer manors of the former Dubrovnik aristocracy very visible in Zaton. The old Families of GuÄetic, MenÄetic, Sorkochevich, Saraka and Lukarevich all built their summer holiday homes in Zaton bay, and many of them are still very well preserved.
There are a few beaches, one in particular has a small pebbled beach with smooth rocks making a natural bed suitable for sunbathing.
To Visit:
There is a nearby village called Podbrezje in which there is a cave named Mociljska with stalactites and stalagmites
