Description:
Molunat is a fishing and tourist settlement at the extreme south of the Croatian coastline, 40 km SE of Dubrovnik. The name Molunat derives from Illyrian and Greek roots (molos - the port) referring to the ancient ports of Mali and Veliki Molunat protected against severe weather conditions. There are many traces of various archaelogical sites on the sea floor, on the mainland, on its walls and fortifications. The Dubrovnik Republic fortified the region of the Molunat Peninsula in case of danger and today, remnants of the ramparts and fort can still be seen. The Molunat area has an ecologically preserved environment with numerous species of mediterranean medicinal herbs. There are also two islets in front of the village Veliki and Mali Škoj.
