Description:

Zagreb

Zagreb is full of bars and pubs. At Tkalciceva there seems to be a pub every few metres and the area is superb for a pub crawl, as it looks like one vast outdoor bar. Most bars and pubs open around midday. Zagreb has a solid and lively nightlife which evolves around several characterful and informal clubs and discos. In the summer locals head to the coast, especially to Novalja on Pag Island.

There are way too many places to list everything but here are some of the essential stops:

Bars

Boom Bar

In the Branimir Centre, this is comfy & cozy for an early evening drink before the music heats up later on.

Peperoncino

Zagreb boomers & gen X gather together over wine and snacks in this Upper Town wine bar.

Zabac

Down by Jarun Lake, this is raw and boisterous and cheap. Calling all students.

Skola

On Bogoviceva, this cocktail bar is sleek and sophisticated.

Hemingway

Very popular cocktail bar, especially amongst Zagreb's trend-setting clientele.

Hard Rock Caffe

A Hard Rock cafe imitation with a similar collection of memorabilia from several musicians.

Pubs

Bavaria

On Trg Preradovica, here's the place for a casual brewski. Only beer is served.

Bulldog

On Bogoviceva, this hugely popular watering hole is teeming, especially on summer nights when the crowds fill up the streets.

Oliver Twist

On Tkalciceva, this pub is as woody and shadowy as a pub should be plus the beer is great.

Live Music

BP Club

For jazz fans, this is Zagreb's oldest and most reputable jazz clubs. It's in the Lower Town.

Sax

Also in the Lower Town, you can hear everything from rock to pop to jazz.

Kset

From live shows to the city's most popular DJs, here's where you can check out the hippest of the hip.

Papillon

On the Sava river, this cavernous venue also has a mixture of live music and DJs. And you can sit outside in the summer.

Purgeraj

Very eclectic programming (jazz, blues, rock, etc) and a mellow vibe are the ingredients to this popular place in a park.

Dance Clubs

Saloon

If you have to choose one dance club, this should be it. The music is eclectic, that is, not strictly techno and you don't have to be under 20 to enjoy it. It's Zagreb's oldest disco.

Aquarius

Near Zagreb's delightful Jarun Lake, Aquarius is big, splashy and fun with the best DJs and merriest crowd.

Gallery Club

Very Buddha-bar and also on Jarun Lake, Gallery Club has hosted famous DJs such as David Guetta and David Morales.

Best

Best attracts a young clientele who are looking for some popular mainstream techno music.

Split

Nightlife is at its best in summer, with a range of outdoor cultural events and coastal bars staying open until the small hours. Within the palace, bars tend to close at around midnight.

Generally, in the evenings the crowd from the Riva heads towards the Old Town where the late night ambiance is provided by the crumbling palace and squares. It makes the Old Town a perfect place for a late supper. There are plenty of clubs around in Split, many of them based in the Old Town. However, the best of the clubs are based on the outskirts of town. It is important to know that some of the clubs close down in the summer time as most of the local clubbers have gone off to the islands.

Planet Jazz

Jazz club with outdoor seating area. Usually attracting a mix of young locals as well as tourists.

Puls, Puls 2 & Song

3 popular bars located in a small square, just behind the Riva. The square provides the buzz, and it becomes very crowded when the weather is good.

Night Café Metropolis

The club is based in the Koteks shopping centre east of the city centre on Osjecka. Metropolis offers good music and an intimate atmosphere. Popular with the locals.

O'Hara

One of the places to be seen, also for the locals. Nice club, good atmosphere.

Obojena Svjetlost

An animated open-air disco just beneath the Mestrovic Gallery. Open until the early hours and is a great place to hang out. There are often Croatian bands playing rock and pop on stage.

Tribu

International party girls and boys have made this ultra-hip disco an obligatory stop on their nightlife tour. It's about 5km west of town along the coast.

Tropic Club Ecuador

Latin style decorated bar, venue that had adopted it with its palms and fruity cocktails.

Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik had never been known for it's wild nightlife but the situation has much improved. Irish-style pubs are the latest fad and you'll find three in the Old Town: Pub Karaka and The Gaffe Pub are the original pub-style bars with pub grub, Guinness, Ale and UK matches on the giant telly. Now there is a new bar named Katie O'Connors.

Then, there's Nonenina Cocktail Bar, a classier scene and one several bar-cafes on Gundulic square catering to the cocktail set. Nearby is Mirage Caffe-Bar, another relaxed hangout. Other cocktail bars include the ever-lively East West Club on Banje beach where the fruity drinks and sunset have the same colours. Artsy types gather at Talir on Antuninska which is decorated with the work of local artists. It's especially popular during Dubrovnik's summer festival.

Lazareti need to be mentioned ,the former quarantine just outside the east walls, now is a place that hosts many electronic music partys.More casual set rules the Nightclub and Cocktail Bar Revelin on top of the medieval fortress.

Most of the drinking in Dubrovnik takes place outdoors for much of the year. Most of the area behind the Cathedral, Buniceva poljana, becomes one big outdoor bar in the spring and summer. The locals tend to hang out in the area between the The nightlife in Dubrovnik is mainly in the Old Town. The town does not have that many nightclubs and the Stradun seems to be the place to be at night.

Hard Jazz Café Trabour

Small and intimate place which extends to facilitate visitors outdoor as the temperature rises. Live music on most summer nights. Drinks are priced according to the status of performers.

The Latino Club

The most popular club in Dubrovnik. Interesting, carefully designed interior, excellent music, reasonable prices, and pleasant staff makes the Latino Club good for a return visit.

Fresh

A great bar with friendly and helpful staff, this is a great place to meet people and chug gigantic beers.

Capitano Bar

When everything else closes, there is always Capitano.  A lively somewhat hazy end to the evening, Capitano is where all the waiters and waitresses from other bars congregate once the zatvoreno sign has been hung from their doors.Deejay dance music is the norm at this sprawling bar near the Pile Gate, but occasionally a live band comes to jam.

The new Factory Club  is open all year, unlike the other clubs, and will offer an eclectic, changing program of local and guest DJs.
