Barban is a medieval fortified settlement in South East Istria with a population of 235. The Municipality of Barban covers an area of 100km2, and contains 73 villages and hamlets with total population of 2802 inhabitants. Barban is rich in cultural and historic sites. Especially worth visiting are the Church of St Nicholas, Church of St James, Church of St Anthony the Abbot, and the Church of Holy Virgin Mary of the Valley as well as the remains of the old city walls and remains of the medieval citadel.
