Kvarner is a region in the northern part of the Croatian Adriatic, bordered by the Istrian Peninsula and the Croatian mainland. It has been a popular tourist destination since the 19th Century, and today accounts for 20% of all tourism in Croatia with 2 million visitors a year. Tourists are attracted to the region by its mild climate, excellent facilities and beautiful coastline with many islands situated in the gulf. The main islands within Kvarner are Cre, Krk,Pag, Rab and Losinj. The bay is very deep, hence city of Rijeka's sea port can handle largest ships, the region as a whole has 8 well equipped marinas offering 3000 sea berths and an additional 2000 on land.
