Description:
The works on removal of devastated lower station of Dubrovnik's cableway are expected to begin during the February,it has been confirmed by Oscar Hasbun, the president of ''Atlas real estates'' company, owner of the cableway that connected Dubrovnik's neighborhood PloÄe with hill SrÄ‘ above Dubrovnik, until it was destroyed in Croatian homeland war in 1991.
Although the owners announced beginning of restoration works for the last October, nothing was done for four months. The owners were pressured by city mayor Dubravka Suica to start with a renovating process as soon as possible.
Dubrovnik cableway which in 2009. celebrates forty years of construction, still remains first and only on Adriatic coast, until its destruction in 1991. Cableway transported twenty million passengers, and investors are hoping that after renovation, cableway will have the annual traffic of 250,000 visitors.
Oscar Hasbun expects that the attractiveness of the route, as well as restaurants and snack bar and café with a panoramic view on the Dubrovnik's historical core from the top station, will surely contribute to return of cableway's famous past. He also added that it is too early to talk about the amount of investment, but the first unofficial estimates say that the "revival" of Dubrovnik cableway will cost around 30 million kunas(more than 4 million euros).
