The New York Times suggests Dubrovnik in Croatia among top places worth visiting in 2012
Which places to visit in 2012? Famous New York Times suggests 45 destinations, including Dubrovnik! Croatian town referred to as Sant Tropez of Balkans is located at 36th place, and New York Times describes it as the jewel of the Adriatic.
In the 'Travel' section of the website and in its printed edition, the New York Times published recommendations of destinations worth visiting this year, putting Panama, Helsinki, and Myanmar on the first three places.
Dubrovnik, which was ranked on the 36th place, had good tourism results in the last five years, especially from the western markets, and the number of visitors in the city is growing annually for about 10 percent.
Pointing out that Dubrovnik is often referred to as a jewel of the Adriatic, the journalist mentions its marble streets, Renaissance fountains and white-sand beaches, but also recently completed expansion of its airport, and renewed lift system, which offers improved access and city views .
Among the Dubrovnik hotels, it mentions Pucic Palace, Excelsior and Villa Dubrovnik and several restaurants that offer innovative cuisine.
Generally, Europe dominates at this year's list of recommendations with a total of 16 places. Besides Dubrovnik and Helsinki, there are London, Amsterdam, Glasgow, Florence, Athens, Vienna, Ukraine, Crans-Montana in Switzerland, Montepellier in France, Lodz in Poland, Dalarna in Sweden, Portovenere in Italy, Algarve in Portugal and Wales.
