Be part of the 7th Night of Museums organized by Croatian Museum Society

 

This Friday 27th January, the 7th Night of Museums is taking place in Croatia. This traditional event offers you a free visit to the museums and various accompanying programs.

 

The project involves numerous museums across Croatian that have prepared interesting programs and exhibitions. For example, in the Archaeological museum Narona, in Vid near Metkovic, you can participate in the presentation, processing, spinning, weaving and knitting wool, and see the exhibition 'Neretva bag'.

 

The Museum of The Peasant's Revolt in Gornja Stubica offers great fun for the youngest - art workshop 'Children draw water' and a visit to the 'Museum of the water in the Museum of Peasant's Revolt'. The older ones will enjoy the musical program 'Local Jazz Combo' in the nearby Sveti Kriz Zacretje.

 

Those who visit Trakoscan will enjoy a night tour of the castle with the performance of the holster group, and the presentation of lace of the Lace Society 'Danica Brossler' from Lepoglava, while the newly opened castle Veliki Tabor offers guided tour through the palace area with costumed guides.

 

Permanent exhibition of the Museum of Krapina Neanderthal is also open for visitors, but only in the period specified in the coupon that you can take in the Krapina Tourist Board office ( Magistratska 11) Visit to the museum is possible every hour, starting at 18:00.

 

The Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments in Split will present the exhibition 'Crkvine - Cista Velika, Stone archive, the old Croatian Treasury'.

 

In the Croatian Maritime Museum you can see the permanent exhibition 'Commercial and military maritime'.

 

Rijeka Astronomical Centre prepared a rich program about the sky and the solar system, with a visit to an exhibition of old telescopes. The Museum of the City of Rijeka have prepared the exhibition 'Rijeka in the Hungarian memory' and 'Art changes the world'.

 

The Archaeological Museum of Istria in Pula, besides the guide through the permanent exhibition, organizes the concert of classic music, while the Museum of Contemporary Art in Istria holds the Museum night party at 22:00.

 

Archaeological Museum in Dubrovnik presents encyclopedia of the 18th century, with drawings of casting bells and cannons, while the Maritime Museum organizes the Pirates' night - the workshop and playroom for children.

 

Night of Museums also found its place in Otavice near Drnis, where the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer will be open. The church is also the final resting place of the great Croatian artist Ivan Mestrovic, who had designed it.

 

On the occasion of the exhibition 'Carnival - King of Europe II - Winter masks of fertility in European ethnographic context' the Ethnographic Museum in Zagreb hosts the original carnival group from Lastovo, that will repeate their lively program every hour.

 

Klovicevi Dvori Gallery presents several exhibitions, some of them are: 'Tizian, Tintoretto, Veronese - great masters of the Renaissance' and 'Mato Celestin Medovic - Retrospective'. Due to the sensitivity of the exhibition items, visit will be limited, and visitors will enter in small groups and in certain time intervals.

 

Croatian Historical Museum presents an exhibition of the 'Croatian War of Independence', while Croatian Museum of Naive Art presents permanent exhibition.

 

Zagreb Brewery has also prepared an interesting program. From 18:00 to 01:00 you can learn all about the ingredients and brewing, see an exhibition of art solutions for the Christmas beer by renowned artists, take a peek into the past through a collection of Zagreb brewery beer labels or newspaper articles about the Zagreb brewery from the last century, learn the traditional ritual of pouring Stella Artois, and watch the film about the Zagreb brewery.

 

This year again, the ZET (Zagreb Electric Tram) provides free transportation by trams and mini-buses adapted to the Museum Night.

 

Night of Museums lasts from 18:00 until 01:00, but some museums may have slightly different schedule, so it is best to check out in the museums that you intend to visit. As every year, there is a great interest for the most popular museums, so be prepared for possible crowds.
