Split football club Hajduk celebrated its 98th birthday at a ceremony last Friday at Poljud stadium.The ceremony held on 13.02.2009. was also the occasion for the announcement the club would continue to exist as a sport joint-stock company.
Minister of Science, Education and Sport Dragan Primorac and Split Mayor Ivan Kuret were among the speakers at the ceremony. They both wished Hajduk a "long and successful" life.
Hajduk club official Mate Peros said he wished the club's football team would satisfy fans by winning the derby with Dinamo Zagreb on 22 February in Split.
Hajduk is one of the two most-popular football clubs in the country and the first Croatian club to be privatised. Dinamo is the other most-popular club.
Hajduk was founded in the famous, centuries-old pub "U Fleků" in Prague by a group of Split students in 1911.
