Description:
It was snowing in Split and the Dalmatian islands this morning (Wed).Snow is a rare sight in Dalamtia, and it snows only once every few years and only lasts for a short time, as Mediterranean climate makes snow here quite rare.
A strong northerly wind has intensified the cold. The temperature was around 0 degrees Celsius early in the morning. Snow has caused traffic chaos in the region because local drivers are not accustomed to six centimetres of the snow.
Ice has covered the airports in Zadar and Split, and children in Split and Sibenik enjoy the winter ambient instead of going to school.
However, snow in Dalmatia does have its dark side. The citizens are not used to it, and the citizens, contrary to their will, are counting the number of people that end up in the trauma ward of Split's Firule hospital, because broken arms and legs are not uncommon.
