Description:
Minister of the Sea, Transport and Development Bozidar Kalmeta expects marine tourism to be good this year despite the recession.Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 18th International Boat and Sport Show from 18 to 22 February at "Velesajam" fairgrounds in Zagreb, Kalmeta said the government expected turnover from marine tourism to be no lower than last year.
Kalmeta said that his statements were based on data from ACI (Adriatic Croatia International club) marinas and charter companies.
Last year, Croatia was visited by 807,000 yachtsmen, who each spent 100 Euros a day on average or twice as much as a typical tourist.
Income from marine tourism was 800 million Euros last year, around 12 per cent of total income from tourism.
Kalmeta said it would be necessary to arrange for 15,000 new berths and 15 new top destinations if turnover from marine tourism was to amount to 15 billion kunas or around two billion Euros in 2019.
