The New7Wonders Foundation has announced a new poll about the seven wonders of nature.In its last poll, seven new wonders of the world were chosen by a total of 100 million votes. The wonders were the Coloseum in Rome, the Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu in Peru, Indian Taj Mahal, the Mexican pyramid Chichen Itza, Petra temple in Jordan and the statue of Christ in Rio de Janeiro.
This time, voters will choose seven wonders of nature. A total of 261 national and multinational nominees from 222 countries ended up on the final list. They are in seven categories: landscapes and ice formations; islands, mountains and volcanoes; caves, rock formations and valleys; forests; national parks and nature reserves; lakes, rivers and waterfalls; and seascapes.
Twelve of them are located in the Balkans and two in Croatia.
The first is the Dunav (Danube), the second longest river in Europe, which goes through Croatian cities Vukovar and Ilok and nature park "Kopacki rit."
One of Croatia's most-beautiful national parks, "Plitvice Lakes," that is currently on UNESCO's Register of World Natural Heritage, is also on the list.
