A total of 3,429 Croats, or ten times more people than the number of available positions, have applied for EU jobs at the European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO).The deadline for applications was 9 February.
The EU jobs include positions such as secretaries, administrative assistants, technicians, translators, interpreters and consultants.
A total of 497 Croats applied for jobs paying the lowest amount, 1,500 Euros monthly, but 2,289 Croats applied for jobs requiring a university degree and paying 5,000 Euros a month.
EPSO spokesman Nicholas Heenan told the daily "Vecernji list" that some applicants would be invited to take a test in March or April.
Those who are hired will receive three-year, renewable contracts.
The Croatian media are claiming the hires are a clear indication Croatia is close to being admitted to the European Union.
