´GAST’ gastronomic fair is a success despite the recession

The 14th annual "GAST" gastronomic fair that lasted from 4 to 8 March in Split was a success despite the recession.
The international fair's 1,269 exhibitors from 15 countries confirmed it as a leading Croatian gastronomic event and also raised expectations about a successful start of the tourism season.
Fair head Igor Bagaric confirmed the fair had had the same number of exhibitors as last year, when their number set a record.
President Stjepan Mesic said the fair had occurred at the right time considering that tourism was the most-important branch of the Croatian economy and Croatia had a lot to offer in gastronomy.
GAST provides a venue for meetings among numerous food, beverage, hotel and hospitality-equipment producers and merchants.
All exhibitors including the one from far-away Indonesia are active in the tourism sector.
