Description:
Minister of Tourism Damir Bajs opened the 11th annual Croatia Boat Show on 28 March in Split.Bajs said the Split fair was among the top ten nautical fairs in the world and was extremely important for promotion of Croatian tourism.
Bajs said: "Now, at a time of world crisis when many nautical fairs have closed their doors, Split offers the Croatia Boat Show, which will attract many foreign tourists. We expect around 50,000 visitors, which will be a great promotion of Croatian tourism considering that many world media also have interest in the fair."
Bajs added that nautical tourism was a sector in which Croatia did not expect much lower revenue this season despite the recession. Only last year, Croatia earned 800 million Euros from nautical tourism.
Bajs he added that Croatia planned to build 15,000 new moorings in the next ten years at 15 destinations in the Adriatic. Croatia expects to earn 15 billion kunas or two billion Euros a year from nautical tourism.
The show occupies an area of 140,000 square meters in front of Diocletian's Palace in Split's harbour, where 1,355 exhibitors have 450 ships on display.
The show, organised by the firm Profectus, will run through 5 April.
