Description:
The Croatian tourist comeback would not have been possible unless foreign tourist journalists, among others, had given it major support. They and their editorial boards deserve gratitude for pointing out the values of the Croatian tourist services and presenting them to their readers, viewers and listeners.Five years ago, aiming to point out the importance of the professional approach in writing about Croatia and to show how much it is appreciated, the Croatian Tourist Board founded the Golden Pen Award for the best texts, i.e. radio and TV programmes on the Croatian tourism. The reason for the award's name to include the word pen is simple. Furthermore, it is a sign of appreciation to every journalist, because Croatia happens to be the homeland of the fountain pen! Namely, the man who invented the fountain pen is the onetime resident of Zagreb, engineer Slavoljub Penkala (1871 - 1922).
This year, the Dubrovnik Tourist Board hosts the 5th Golden Pen Award - prize travel for the 38 journalists nominated by the Croatian Tourist Board foreign branch offices. From 28 May to 1 June the foreign journalist will have the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the city of Dubrovnik and its region. The Golden Pen Award ceremony will take place at Fort Revelin.
Together with the Croatian Tourist Board and the Dubrovnik-Neretva County Tourist Board, we conceptualised the programme for the journalists' stay in Dubrovnik. During their stay the foreign journalists will be acquainted with the Dubrovnik monuments, have a boat excursion to the Elafite Islands, visit the nearby Konavle and learn about its natural and cultural wealth. The magical Arboretum in Trsteno will for a short time bring the journalists back to the renaissance period, and in Mali Ston they will savour the locally grown oysters with the top quality wines from the Pelješac Peninsula. After Dubrovnik, many of the journalists will also visit other parts of Croatia. That will enable them to learn about all new tourist services offered in our homeland.
The organisation of this international annual gathering of journalists in Dubrovnik is of outstanding importance, particularly in the year of tourist challenges. The Croatian Tourist Board will thus thank the foreign journalists for their precious support to tourism and everything they have accomplished so far, in the hope of even more successful shared tourist future.
