Description:
The Croatian Chamber of Trades and Crafts (HOK) wants shops to be able to open on Sundays from Easter on and not to have legally to wait until 1 June.HOK in a letter to the government said the tourist season on the Adriatic coast traditionally began at Easter and restaurants and shops needed to be able to open on Sundays to provide tourists with necessary services.
HOK also wants such establishments to be able to open on holidays from Easter on.
According to some Croatian media, the law could be changed since even some ministers believed it was logical to have open doors when guests were arriving, especially at a time of world financial crisis.
The daily Vecernji list has reported new legislation might be introduced by 1 May this year.
Split Mayor Ivan Kuret said he also supported HOK's demand. On the other hand, some cities, such as Dubrovnik, have decided to take the initiative into their own hands. Dubrovnik allowed its shops to open on Easter because of cruiser visitors.
