Description:
One of the largest Illyrian tumuli sites in Konavle, located close to St. George's Church and at the highest point of the village, was restored and ceremoniously opened. The Illyrians did not have temples, but they worshipped out in the open, alongside the tumuli. The Illyrians frequently buried their deceased in graves marked by huge mounds of stone, stacked like boulders. The belief of the Illyrians, who built 7 meter-high tumuli such as the ones found at Mikulići over two thousand years ago, revolved around worshipping natural forces, for they believed that divine will lay in the gurgling creeks and wind currents.
Pero Kušelj, the President of the Local Committee, expressed his satisfaction that the restored Illyrian tumuli had given Konavle another tourist attraction, which was part of the Ministry of Tourism's plan for the development of rural tourism in Konavle.
