The owners of a Russian casino chain are claiming they will transfer their business to Croatia after 1 July. The owners must close their casinos as of the end of June because of a new Russian regulation.
The Tportal website has reported Russian casinos may be opened in Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro.
Former President and current Prime Minister Vladimir Putin called for the closure of casinos in 2006. He compared gambling to alcoholism.
Now, three years later, the Russian government has adopted a new regulation denying casinos operating permits after 1 July.
Most casinos in Russian are owned by the Ritzio Entertainment group and Storm International.
Ritzio Entertainment group co-owner Oleg Bojko said he would transfer his gambling operation to Italy, Germany, Serbia and Croatia.
If such plans are achieved, it will be a good opportunity for the development of domestic tourism because on the one hand it will open the opportunity for employment of local population, and it will attract richer Russian tourists, which have the reputation as being the reputation of large consumers and fans of gambling.
