Description:
In a bizarre twist to the much advertised return of flights from Serbia to Croatia, tourist charter flights from Belgrade in Serbia, to Dubrovnik in Croatia, have been scapped after just 2 flights!
The Serbian air carrier, JAT Airways, advertised the charter flights as a return to the Croatian market for the first time in 18 years after they were stopped due to the troubles in former Yugoslavia.
Authorities in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, confirmed on Friday that only two "promotional" flights were actually agreed, but further flights were not. The Croatian transport ministry spokeswoman Marinka Haluzan told the German Press Agency dpa, that "Other flights were not allowed because there is no bilateral air traffic agreement between our countries,". She continued that Charter flights are not a part of air traffic agreements between countries, only regular airline flights. However, the agreement is a "basis for charters".
That will be no comfort to the passengers who booked with Jat. In a confusing reversal to it's advertised schedules, the Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti said that Jat has now stopped taking reservations for the charter flights to Dubrovnik and is refunding the 800 tickets sold. Serbian and Croatian officials said talks would hopefully continue next week.
