Croatian hotels and tourist destinations have received nine nominations for World Travel Awards.The awards are for excellence in all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry.
Croatian hotels and cities have been nominated in the categories of Europe's Leading Conference Hotel, Europe's Leading Casino Resort, Europe's Leading Boutique Resort, Europe's Leading Cruise Destination and Europe's Leading Cruise Port.
Voting will last until August, and the awards ceremony will take place on 17 October in Obidos, Portugal.
A World Travel Award is considered to be the equivalent of a tourism Oscar.
Le Méridien Lav hotel in Podstrana near Split, which won three awards in the 2008 World Travel Awards for Europe competition, has four nominations for 2009.
Beside Le Méridien Lav, World Travel Awards has also nominated the Palace hotel in Dubrovnik, the Adriana hotel on Hvar Island, and the Lesic Dimitri Palace hotel on Korcula Island.
The cities of Dubrovnik and Split have been nominated for the Europe's Leading Cruise Port award.
