The historical Swiss-guard unit "Société des Vieux-Grenadiers" will be a special guest at the traditional knights' competition called Alka in Sinj in southern Croatia on 9 August.Alka officials have confirmed the arrival of the Swiss unit as part of cooperation between the two societies.
Participants in the Alka knights' competition visited Geneva, Switzerland in December last year.
Alka consists of knights riding their horses at high speed try to put their spears through a small ring divided into three parts. The annual festival dates back to a victory against the Turks in 1715.
The 294th traditional Alka competition will take place on 9 August in Sinj with the attendance of Croatian President Stjepan Mesic.
