Description:
First summer school of the Croatian language is being held from 10 to 23 August in central Dalmatian city Zadar. The school's goal is to promote Croatia's culture and heritage and to teach foreigners to speak better Croatian.
Twenty-three students from ten European countries and a group of young Russian journalism students from the University of International Relations in Moscow are attending the school this year.
The Russians came to Zadar thanks to their teacher Galina Georgijevna Tiapko, who, as she told the daily Slobodna Dalmacija, had been impressed by Croatian literature and the Dalmatian sense of humour.
Tiapko has visited Zadar many times and wanted to show her students why she had been impressed by the city and its culture.
In interviews with local Zadar radio stations, the Russian students said they believed they could learn a lot from Croatian journalism, especially from Croatian National Television (HRT).
