Traditional Diocletian Days, a cultural-touristic event, is being held from 17 to 31 August in the centre of Split.The opening ceremony of Diocletian Days will be held at the Peristyle at 8:30pm today (Mon) with the mayor handing over the keys of the city to Emperor Diocletian and his wife Prisca.
Numerous residents and tourists will wear tunics and togas with olive wreaths around their heads.
The emperor and his imperial retinue will drive around the city in old carriages.
Singers and street entertainers will perform throughout the city.
A dinner in Diocletian's cellars with Roman specialities prepared by famous Split chef Miro Bogdanovic will end the evening's festivities.
