Description:
Tottenham midfielder Luka Modrić, who suffered an injury in a collision with Birmingham's Lee Bowyer on Saturday, will not have to undergo an operation. The 23-year-old Croatian national team player, who injured his lower leg in Saturday's match, may be back on the pitch within six weeks.
Croatian national team doctor Zoran Bahtijarevic was not so optimistic on Saturday night when he said that kind of injury required a recovery period of two-to-three months.
X-rays the next day, however, revealed the situation was much better than anyone had expected.
On Spurs' website, an official statement says: "Luka Modrić suffered a fracture of his fibula on Saturday that does not require surgery and simply requires the wearing of an air-cast protective boot. It is anticipated Luka will be back in training in six weeks."
Bahtijarevic said he had talked with Modrić, who is depressed because of his injury. But he is not the only one, because Croatian national team coach Slaven Bilic will not be able to count on Modric for the next three World Cup qualification games.
