Agencies predict 2010 season will be a tough one for Croatian tourism

The Association of Croatian Travel Agencies said this year's tourism season had been a relative success at its regular meeting in Split.
Analysing the current tourist season, President Boris Zgomba said the year had been a "relative success" because it had been much better than it was  expected and financial indicators had not corresponded to the number of tourists.
Most of them spent less money, and, on the other hand, many hotels and private apartments reduced significantly prices for the season.
Mr.Zgomba also added: "We were very lucky this year. No one in the world had expected a crisis, so many were not prepared for what was coming. But the 2010 season will be a tough one for tourism. Other markets that dropped this year will make an extra effort to attract more tourists next year. Because of that, our Ministry of Tourism needs to give us extra support for advertising if it wants the season to be on this year's level."
