Description:
Croatian National Bank (HNB) Governor Zeljko Rohatinski has said Croatia may emerge from recession in 2010 but will need time to recover from it.Asked whether he believed the crisis had touched bottom, Rohatinski said it depended on how a crisis was defined.
In an interview on Croatian national television, Rohatinski said: "If we talk about a global way of thinking, the crisis started in autumn 2008, and, yes, we have reached the bottom and may emerge from recession in the first half of 2010. But, if we remember that higher foreign debt and deficit have been negatively affecting Croatia since 2004, we will conclude we will need much more time to recover from the crisis."
Rohatinski added Croatia was paying for previous irrational behaviour.
He also claimed that, thanks to HNB's measures, Croatia did not face the danger of a credit freeze or currency depreciation.
