Still no luck with rescue mission of Marco Polo

29 October 2009

Description:

Three tug ships that wanted to pull "Marco Polo" back into the sea didn't succeed in their mission. It looks like the rescue teams will have to blow undewater rocks with TNT to free the ship and pull it back into the sea.

"Marco Polo", Croatia's biggest ferry ship, 128 meters long which weights over 2000 tons crashed into the small island Sit, located between Sibenik and Zadar. 61 crew members and 45 passengers were onboard when the accident happened. "Marco Polo" operates on a regular ferry line Rijeka - Split - Dubrovnik - Bari. Causes for the accident are still not known but investigators think it happened because the crew forgot to change the course of the journey. None of the passengers were injured in this accident and there was no leaks of dangerous materials into the sea.
