The IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federation) has nominated Croatia's top high jumper, Blanka Vlasic, for best female athlete of the year. Blanka has consistently been at the head of her game recently winning Gold at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin this year where she was the only athlete to clear 2.04 metres. But she produced her best performance this year yesterday at the 2009 IAAF Zagreb International Grand Prix, clearing 2.08 metres, a new Croatian record!

 

The winners of the 2009 World Athlete of the Year Awards will be announced during the 2009 World Athletics Gala, to take place in Monaco on the 22nd November. Last year, Vlasic ranked eight on the IAAF best female athletes list. Last year Blanka came 8th in the competition - this year, the other candidates are; American Sanya Richards, Pole Anita Wlodarczyk, Russian Yelena Isinbayeva and New Zealander Valerie Vili.
