Description:
The Marco Polo Ferry that has been beached on Sit Island after it was accidentally lodged there by its crew, has been refloated successfully! The ferry was insured for 4 million Dollars and the refloating cost ferry company Jadrolinija, 1.5 million US Dollars...
Altogether the ferry was wedged onto the island for a month and it seems as though forgetful crew are to blame. Sibenik Maritime Safety Inspectors said that crew members forgot to change the ferry's route and that there had been no technical issues with the boat at the time. The crew members are now likely to have to pay fines from between around 137 - 4000 Euros and also face 2 year suspensions.
The fate of the ship is not yet certain as experts still have to examine her and establish the damage that has occured, but she will later be taken to shipyards in Mali Losinj.
