Emil Bilaver a parish priest in Zadar,Croatia has come up with a novel idea to try and reduce the amount of Croatians couples divorcing.

Recent surveys show that there has been a 60% rise in the Southern Croatia part of Dalmatia

"We pay for weekends for them at the tourist resort of Opatija on the northern Adriatic coast as couples need to be alone", Bilaver told the daily Slobodna Dalmacija.

He did not say precisely how many couples he had already sent to the tourist resort for a weekend or how he had raised the money to pay for the holidays.

"We pay for them as many couples would not be able to afford them", the priest added.

No information on the success of the priest’s efforts to prevent divorces is available as yet.
