Description:
At his last “Coffee with the President” on Saturday, President Stjepan Mesić told the citizens he is leaving his function satisfied and he only regretted the fact that Croatia did not enter the European Union during his mandate.
He noted that he was very committed to the question of Croatia’s EU membership, and that he is sure that the entrance to the Union would ensure greater prosperity for Croatian citizens. He also added that the entrance of other countries in the European Union has stopped the Union's ambitions for changing the boundaries and to understand that "the architecture of our area was completed”.
After a decade as the head of the state, Mesic said that he does not find it difficult to leave his post because he does his best at any job he holds. In his new office, Mesic plans to take someone from the area of foreign affairs because he expects a lot of interaction with former presidents and foreign institutions.
Mesic expects the new president, Ivo Josipovic, to keep some of his counselors and assistants in the President’s office.
Ten groups of citizens attended the last Coffee with the President, including members of the Volunteer Fire companies from Vrbovec Gaj, representatives of humanitarian organizations, "Braveheart" and the delegation of the Croatian Sports Association of Deaf and Deaf handball team.
