Unemployment Worries the Government

"The number of unemployed citizens concerned me and the whole government," replied the Prime Minister Kosor when she was asked about the 308 thousand unemployed persons in Croatia. Kosor added that the Government has already adopted "several measures that would give the results, and for the next week announced measures related to building new apartments.

"We will proceed next week with measures related to building new apartments so we could decrease the pressure on that area, as we have announced some measures to those companies that are particularly in difficult problems. Yes, we are concerned, we work with all our strength, the best we can, and next week we should see the first effects of the measures we have adopted and which we could not make before because there was no money to be freed" –said Kosor after meeting with the representatives of the parliamentary opposition.

In addition, Kosor eliminated the possibility to increase unemployment benefits. "No, fees are as they are" – said Kosor, adding that she hopes that the analysts' predictions about the black further 70 thousand people who will lose their jobs this year will not take place.

"It is now duty for all employers to make maximum efforts to preserve every job" – said Kosor, adding that at this time "the most important is to survive."
