Holiday in Croatia - Villa Living Series: Villa Kate - a stylish way to enjoy Croatia!

Welcome to the new slot designed to show you some of the gorgeous, idyllic and decidedly hot villas of the moment around Croatia for summer 2011. We are picking some of our favourite villas so that you can take a look and get a taster of what's on offer up and down the coast...

So we're starting with Villa Kate, nestled on the hillside of the sea edge village of Mlini, just outside of the must see UNESCO World Heritage Site of Dubrovnik. So close to the beautiful Bay of Mlini with it's stunning beaches and charming restaurants, yet set back enough to give you that much yearned for peace and quiet and pool-side serenity.

Spacious is a subjective word but this villa has ample space - sleeping 12 extremely comfortabley across 4 apartments but with a good sized communal living space in the main apartment, there is easily further space for 2 more, making a villa for 14. There are ample terraces with spectacular views. You can't not be impressed by every angle of this villa - the marble floors, the balconies - the lovely traditional summer kitchen by the pool. Every care has obviously been taken to furnish the villa to a high standard and ensure privacy and it is a joy to lie by the pool with some local chilled white wine under an opulent white umbrella watching the jacuzzi bubble... It's hard to find villas such as these in Croatia as new properties and developments have been rare - so close to the sea, with pool, jacuzzi, privacy - there are a few but the location of this one is great. Mlini is a lovely fishing village, perfect for evenings when you'd like to go out but don't want to go far. And during the day, the cafes and beaches are plentiful. A water taxi is on hand until about 8pm during the summer months to take you into the old town of Dubrovnik, a wonderful way to travel, and the only way in our opinion...A taxi to Dubrovnik in the evening is the best bet - 10 minutes and about £10 - visit Gils Pop Lounge for an exquisite lounge bar cocktail experience. Sit overlooking the harbour in the mediterannean summer heat and you can't help but bask in it all. In actual fact, you will be blown away by any location in Dubrovnik - it's priceless.

If you have a car, it is worth it - painless for getting back to the villa after a day at the beach! But mostly to visit some of the other nearby beautiful spots in the area. There are some stunning beaches in Dubrovnik - Slano has some gorgeous beaches, Trsteno is a Botanical Garden with a fabulous grotto at the bottom and Cavtat is very lovely for an alternative day out. It is easy to get to any place along the Dubrovnik Riviera as Mlini is situated more or less in the centre of it. The airport is about a 20 minute drive away and so everything is very easy. You are also only 30 minutes drive from Montenegro if you fancy a day trip.

In our opinion, taking things easy and enjoying the villa is a top priority, and then making the most of your immediate surroundings - it is hard to find a location such as this where you have such idyllic beaches and historic sites all within 15 - 2 minutes. Don't forget that Dubrovnik even has 5 little islands within easy reach - Lokrum for example - hire a boat for the day to really experience the beautiful clear sea Croatia is famous for, spend the afternoon in a lovely bay and enjoy life!
