Description:
Two fishermen spotted a six-to-seven-metre-long basking shark in shallow water last week near Pula. The shark came to the surface only two metres in front of the fishermen's boat and then circled around them for almost five minutes before disappearing. Basking sharks, which are up to 12 metres long, are passive filter feeders, filtering zooplankton, small fish and invertebrates through up to 2,000 tons of water per hour.
The basking shark is the world's second biggest fish and is found in the Adriatic mostly in the winter.
