January 2008 saw a 10% increase in the numbers of tourist arrivals when compared with the same month last year. On average the length of stay also increased by 11%.
In total 347460 tourist nights were booked in commercial accommodation facilities in the month of January, with domestic travel accounting for 60% of this total and foreign tourists 40%.
Domestic tourist nights increased by 8% and the number of foreign tourist nights increased by 15% compared to January 2007.
By far the largest group of foreign visitors to Croatia in January were Italians who counted for 70.8% of the total, followed by Bosnia & Herzegovina (12.5%), Germany and Slovakia (9.3% each), Austria (7.9%), Serbia (4%), France (3.5%), the UK (3.3%) and Russia (3.1%). Tourists from other countries accounted for the remaining 29.2% of nights stayed by foreign visitors.
