Description:

Adriatic coast in Croatia - Oasis and cradle of naturism

Foreign media often describe Croatia as a 'naturist paradise', it is therefore not surprising that CNN named island of Rab top destination for nudists.

All those who believe that Croatia is a conservative country, will be surprised at the fact that the Adriatic coast is one of the most tolerant naturist destinations in the world, and Rab island  cradle of naturist tourism.

Naturism in Croatia dates back in 1936, when the first naturist beach on the island of Rab was opened - Paradise Beach.

Nude bathing season on Rab was opened by British king Edward VIII, who several months later became the first king who abdicated for the love of divorced American Wallis Simpson. It is the island of Rab that was on CNN's list of the ten top destinations for nudists.

CNN also highlights Lopar with three beaches - Sahara, Stolac and Ciganka, as good sites for nudists.

Given the long tradition of nudism tolerance, Croatia was often described as a 'naturist paradise'. It is interesting that it is third in the world, behind France and Germany. It is estimated that every fifth customer of Croatian coast wants to swim naked.

Most nudist camps are situated in Istria, as many as six. Among them is Koversada in Vrsar, the largest naturist resort in Europe, situated on 120 acres, with more than five thousand meters of the coast.

The peak of the season is annual contest for Miss Nudism, which is organized every August on the sandy beach of the camp. The legends say that the famous adventurer Casanova was the first naturist on the Koversada islet.

Besides Koversada, known camps in Istria are Kanegra near Umag, Valalta at the entrance to the Lim channel, Solaris and Ulika near Porec and camp on the peninsula in Funtana. There are also several free beaches open in the vicinity of Rovinj, Porec and Medulin.

In middle Dalmatia, island of Hvar is the most famous naturist destination. Beach on the island Zecevo is accessible by boat from Jelsa, while from the town of Hvar, almost the whole day, you can get to the beach Jerolim, Stipanska, Mlin or somewhat remote Palmizana.

Nearby Makarska are famous beaches Vrulja (between Pisak and Brela), and Dracevac between Tucepi and Podgora, but also part of the beach of St. Peter, on a peninsula within the city. The most beautiful and most famous is beach Nugal which is located near the town of Makarska.

In Dubrovnik area nudists enjoy on the Elaphite Islands.

In any case Adriatic coast is ideal for the first naturist experiences, and all day enjoyment in the freedom of spirit and body.
