Ten kilometers from Karlovac, 20 kilometers from Slovenia in the town of Jaškovo, not far from Ozalj is the Restaurant Žganjer. Since 1974, the restaurant has provided its guests culinary pleaures and unforgettable moments, and since 1997 it has been a regular member of the elite group of the 100 leading restaurants in Croatia.
Flowers and light dominate the interior of the restaurant, which is divided into several areas. The central part of the restaurant, decorated with paintings and flowers, has a seating capacity for 80 persons.
The salon of pastel colors is ideal for relaxation, reading the newspaper, or conversation over coffee and a tasty dessert.
The exclusive main dining room has 250 places for weddings and other family gatherings, seminars, conferences and presentations. Movable partitions allow the room to be divided into two smaller areas in which two different events can be held simultarnously without interference.
The food prepared at the restaurant emphasizes domestic cuisine and fresh ingredients. The house specialty is young island lamb from the islands of Pag, Krk, or Cres. It is prepared in restaurant's own butcher shop and is prepared in the oven or on the spit immediately before the arrival of guests. In addition to lamb, there are many dishes of veal. Restaurant customers most enjoy the various types of dried meat, homemade cheese, homemade breads and the unavoidable desserts: homemade strudels, cakes and tortes.
The wine list includes well-known wines from Croatia and from around the world, but the resturant's staff most happily recommend wines from the Ozalj-Vivodin vineyards (Žabčić, Frlan, Šoštar).
After a visit to Restaurant Žganjer we recommend a tour of historic Ozalj - the city of the Zrinskis and the Frankopans, with the Kupa River and the Old Town - and a tour of the very rich sacred site of Svetica, or even a visit to the Ozalj-Vivodin vineyards.
For events that you may wish to have at home, in the garden, at work, or anywhere else, the Žganjer offers catering for up to 150 people.
